The Broad Consumer Price Index (IPCA) which measures official inflation stood at 0.57% last September. In August, the rate was 0.25%, and in September 2013, 0.35%. The data was released on Wednesday (Oct. 8) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The increase in September was mainly driven by food prices
The increase in September was mainly driven by food prices, which rose 0.78% following three months of falling prices. Another cost category that was an important factor leading to the increase was transport, with 0.63% inflation.
